Location Situated just 65 miles from Tucson, our 300 year old intimate ranch is one of the last great haciendas in America.  Established as a guest ranch in 1923, Rancho De La Osa’s history has been lovingly preserved in the beautiful buildings that rest comfortably in the rolling grasslands of the high Sonoran Desert.

Activities At Rancho De La Osa daytime activities include riding, trails, guided hikes, nature walks, mountain biking and bird watching.

Situated in the high Sonoran Desert and with access to over 135,000 acres of trails, Rancho De La Osa offers controlled pleasure rides.  Rides are both unique and exciting.  One day you could find yourself riding over rocky uplands and across grassland desert rounding up Longhorn cattle.  The next day out riding a mountain trail, perhaps packing a breakfast or lunch with you.   Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced rider we have a horse and ride suited to your ability.

DAILY RIDING

With 2 scheduled horseback rides per day, each of approximately two hours in duration, the traditional ranch vacation is suitable for riders of all abilities.  Explore Rancho De La Osa and the surrounding area with our experienced and informative wranglers.  

Please note that on holidays our horses get half a day off and we offer either one trail ride or dudeo on these days. If you are staying for one night, there will only be one ride scheduled during your stay. If you wish to arrive early, and schedule a second ride,  please call for charges and information.

BIRD WATCHING This property borders the 115,000 acre Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge which contains extensive grasslands that preserve the endangered masked bobwhite quail and is also home to more than 300 species of birds including hawks, herons, gray hawks, vermilion fly catchers and golden eagles during their seasonal migration. You’ll find species here that thrive in the vast remoteness of our territory. Loggerhead shrikes for example, imperiled elsewhere in the West, are plentiful here.

The Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge offers numerous public tours from November through April. For information on group tours and slide programs please ask for more info.

And, after spending time in the saddle and exploring on foot, you can relax in the hot tub, cool down in the pool or have a massage before enjoying a pre dinner drink in the cantina. 

Dining is focused around quality food and wine.  Southwestern cuisine, encompassing a blend of Spanish, Mexican, Native American and Southwestern United States ingredients, is served either in our romantic and historic hacienda dining room, secluded outdoor courtyard or under the stars at a cookout. 

Accommodations

18 adobe guest rooms are uniquely and vibrantly furnished with Mexican antiques and vintage furniture.  Each has a porch that opens to mountain views and most rooms have a wood burning fireplace. 

MEALS : Breakfast each morning includes a fresh fruit course, entrée and pastry served with juice and Seattle’s Best Coffee, or, if you’re a tea drinker, Tazo is the brand of choice.

Lunch entrees change daily and feature such items as homemade soups, entrée salads, crab or chicken enchiladas (made fresh on the ranch) and many more fun entrees. Weather permitting, our lunch cookouts are not to miss! Lunch always brings a fresh baked dessert, homemade ice cream/sorbet or the ranch favorite, a triple chocolate dove bar.

 Dinner is served at 7 p.m.Dinner starts with a creative salad on a diverse variety of fresh greens, followed by an entrée, fresh vegetable and side.  Then, a moment of suspense arrives before the dessert of the night arrives.

Cocktails and wine - Every evening at 6 p.m. the Cantina opens for social hour. (Beer is available all day) A selection alcohol, make a “mean” martini or perhaps you would like to try their Blood Orange Margarita.  Vvariety of beer and a fun wine list.  Good selection of wines.

Please note that AZ Liquor Law prohibits guests from taking alcoholic beverages onto licensed premises.  If you take your own liquor, please keep it in your room, as it cannot be consumed in the common areas.
