BOX T COWBOY CAMP - CHICO BASIN, COLORADO

The Box T Cowboy Camp dates are as follows:  April 30-May 6, Sept 17-23, 24-30;  Box T Women's Cowboy Camp is April 23-29; Box T Family Cowboy Camp is June 25-July 1 (MIN AGE 12).

Expeditions are offered by Chico Basin Ranch across the back reaches of its ranch to a limited number of guests. Trips entail camping with the herd for three nights, and "loose herding" it across varied terrain in an effort to better manage the ranch’s grasslands.

The spring camps (April) are centered around the yearly calving process, and the fall camps (September) around management of the bulls and the herd in preparation for the coming winter season.

Each guest plays an active role in the management of the ranch during these weeks and helps us ensure the success of two of our busiest times of the year –calving season and fall round-up.  One of the objectives of these weeks will be to involve participants in the actual running of the ranch and to teach horsemanship, herding and range management skills and –oh yeah, have a lot of fun doing it!

SPRING / BoxT Camps Centered on the yearly calving process out on the prairie, guests can expect to see nature in action!  During calving season we are out on our 87,000 acres on horseback daily checking the herds for new calves, making sure mom and calf don't get separated, moving the yearlings and weaning the fall pairs. Guests will participate in a variety of horseback and non-horseback activities as they understand the inner workings of ranch life. 3 nights camping / 3 nights in bunk housing.

FALL / BoxT Camps
The fall camps center on cutting bulls from the larger herds, and moving cattle out to the farther reaches of the
ranch in preparation for the coming winter months. Guests will participate in a variety of horseback and non-horseback activities as they understand the inner workings of ranch life. 3 nights camping / 3 nights in bunk housing.

What To Bring: Broad brimmed hat, riding boots, sleeping bag, sunscreen, chapstick, riding or work gloves, jeans for riding, a variety of clothes that can be layered depending on the weather, and a camera.
