The Green River offers a true
adventure with all the fun of a real wilderness area but without extreme whitewater. With more than 60 rapids on offer, warm summer temperatures and
unbeatable scenery, this is a great family trip from 8 year old upwards.
Plus with Saddles & Paddles there is a stay at the Red Cliffs Ranch for horseback riding and a Hummer trip into the fabulous red rock country.
In 2002, the Red Cliffs Ranch
opened as the Red Cliffs Resort, offering guests a ranch-like
experience amid luxurious Western charm.The
resort even has its own winery, the
Castle Creek Winery. Several varieties
of award-winning wines are
produced from a dozen local growers. The winery
includes a tasting room and gift shop.
At Red Cliffs Lodge show you the ropes when it comes to having a good time on
the saddle. You will enjoy a half day scenic morning ride through the Castle
Creek trail. You will get to see many famous points of interest such as Adobe
Mesa, Round Mountain, Castle Rock and Priest and the Nuns. You will ride up
through the hills with gorgeous views and many opportunities to take pictures.
You depart from Moab by coach to the ranch. Your first two days are spent at the ranch enjoying the guided horse back tours on trails that John Wayne would have travelled on. Before dinner on the second night, the Hummer tour takes you on another adventure. The remaining days are spent on the river. After a scenic flight to the river it’s off down Desolation Canyon. There are nearby hikes along the way to view Indian Petroglyphs then continue down the river either with your guide taking the inflatable raft or you may want to jump into a kayak.
Rapids with names like Wire Fence and Three Fords are found here -the largest on the Green River. Once through Desolation you come into Gray Canyon traversing 40 million years of geological history. There are still rapids to enjoy on the final day and then, after lunch and a last chance to celebrate your journey, a coach will return you to Moab.
