accommodations
The Ranch has
an informal atmosphere offering a blend of the West with the comforts of home.
Guests’ stay in cozy
log cabins nestled around the ranch between the aspen and
the spruce. Each of the 6 cabins is unique with western décor, private
bathroom, coffee maker and small refrigerator. Cabins easily accommodate
singles to six persons. The main log lodge with its western charm is a fun spot
for meals and social gathering. The door is always open and the coffee is
always on!
meals
Wholesome and
hearty home-style meals are served in the main log lodge. Expect traditional
cowboy cookouts, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and homemade breads &
goodies just like Grandma used to make. Special diets are easily accommodated
with advance notice. The ranch does not have a liquor license, but you are
welcome to bring along whatever you enjoy. Ice and mixers available.
Riding program
At the Triple J, our quality herd of over sixty well-loved quarter horses is mountain savvy and well suited for the beginning rider to the experienced. Our horses and riding program are central and we will attempt to match your ability and personality to a well-suited mount.
The riding
begins with Horsemanship/Safety Instruction in our arena. Riding activities are
then geared throughout the
week to your level and personal interests. Morning
and afternoon rides, as well as all-day rides can take you from the
flower-strewn meadows to the high mountain country. Tucked just inside the
Rocky Mountain Front, and surrounded on 3 sides by National Forest, the Ranch
location allows for endless riding opportunities with dramatic changes in
scenery. The famous Bob Marshall Wilderness, a million acres of pristine, roadless wilderness, is just a horseback ride away. You may want to admire the
scenery from a walk, or feel more adventurous to lope across the prairie.
Guests may spend extra time in the arena with a Wrangler to perfect your
skills. Our high Wrangler-to-guest ratio ensures plenty of individual attention
with many different options for guests.
The weight limit for riding is 250 lbs. The guest must be physically able to mount their horse unassisted. Pregnant women will not be allowed to ride. Families may ride together on certain rides depending on the type of ride, and the child’s proven ability, which is at the Wrangler’s discretion. A separate ride will be taken for adults who do not wish to ride with children.
We do not provide helmets, so the guest must bring one if they wish to wear one during riding. Cowboy boots are the safest shoes for riding. Tennis shoes are not allowed for riding.
fishing
The Ranch has 3
spring fed Rainbow Trout ponds for fly-fishing instruction and also spin casting
(catch and release only). Just 5 minutes from the Ranch is the Sun River or
Gibson Lake for Rainbow, Brown or Cutthroat Trout. A fishing license is
required for the lake or river, and can be purchased in Augusta before arriving
at the ranch. We do not provide fishing equipment, so the guest will need
to bring his or her own gear.
HIKING
Our “off the beaten path” location allows for unlimited hiking opportunities. Most guests like to be shown a trail (maps available) and explore on their own, but a guided, interpretive hike is also available. Their staff are knowledgeable in area flora/fauna. The “Mortimer Peak” ride offers a non-technical mountain climbing scramble.
Children’s Program
The Triple J Children’s Program is available for 6 –to-14 year old children. Each child will be given the opportunity to have their own horse for the week and to learn horsemanship skills with one of our dedicated Kid’s Wranglers. End of the week horse-games are always a highlight. Other special activities include wildlife hikes, nature studies, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts. Kids love to explore the area, fish in the ranch trout ponds, build forts, play in the great outdoors, or swim in the pool. Children are not required to participate in any activity; we simply can provide counselled activities should parents desire a little freedom.
ADULT ONLY WEEKS
If brilliant colours, crisp evenings and no children sound appealing, visit the Triple J in the Fall. Our adult-only weeks begin end Aug through September . These weeks emphasize long, scenic rides and a quiet relaxing atmosphere.
Sightseeing
Tours of the Sun River Canyon are spectacular. The area is rich in geology, fossils, and Indian history with an authentic Blackfeet pictograph. Other areas the guest may enjoy before or after their ranch stay may include the Charlie Russell Museum, which displays western and Indian cultural art and history. The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, also in Great Falls is a wonderful exhibit depicting the famed exploration effort of Lewis & Clark.
