Horse Drive: Early in the spring, they trail their mare band into the ranch for the summer. Their colts are born at the ranch and in May and make mare bands and turn in the studs for the season. Late in the fall they trail these same mares back to Wyoming with their colts in November, not for the feint hearted as the weather can be brutal.
Cattle Drive: Their season starts in May with cattle drives from Wyoming to Montana. The ranch trail cows over the Old Sioux Trail stretching 50 miles through the wild horse range and into Montana’s beautiful “Big Sky Country”. In the spring they trail 100-150 cows, each with their calf, each week. During their spring drives you will stay in an authentic cow camp, if the weather permits. Their fall drives begin in mid October. They do not camp during these drives. Since the calves have been weaned earlier, they only trail cows on these fall drives. Don’t let this scare you away, these drives are as easily accomplished by beginners as well as experienced riders.
Summer Drives: You will trail cows up into the beautiful mountain meadows of the Big Horn Mountains. It is a real thrill and a challenge to trail cows up to the top (12,000 feet) of this mountain.
Ranch Weeks: Ranch weeks start at the conclusion of the cattle drives and ends with the beginning of the fall cattle drives. A ranch week may include branding, vaccinating, roping, mini-veterinary needs, wrangling the horse cavvy, holding herds, salting, fencing, rotating pastures, bull gathering, weaning calves, pregnancy testing cows and heifers, weaning colts, working mare bands, occasional horse drives, and riding through the neighbours pastures looking for strays. Since this is a year round cow/calf, mare/colt operation, all of these things are done in the timing and season they are needed.
The bunkhouse has a semi-private bath facility . The Ranch house rooms have a semi-private bath across the hall. The ranch have moved the cabins into the Dryhead Canyon which have had bathrooms added.
